About Maki

Originally from New York and having lived in several countries, Maki identifies as a “third culture kid”— someone who often felt like an outside observer in various cultural spaces. This sense of being between worlds fuels her empathy and connection with clients wrestling with belonging, identity, and competing expectations.

Maki’s path to therapy was a mid-career shift, following work in international development and policy focused on immigrant and refugee communities. This background deeply informs the lens she brings into the therapy room, where she holds both personal and systemic perspectives. She is passionate about accessibility in mental health and offers limited pro bono slots for clients who are uninsured or underinsured.

Maki strives to create a therapeutic space where clients feel fully seen, validated, and held, including the parts of their story that may feel messy or contradictory. She invites curiosity, compassion, and gentleness while feeling into and untangling internal tensions and external pressures that shape one’s life. If you’re wondering if working together might be a good fit, she welcomes you to schedule a free consultation to explore together.

Outside of her work, Maki deeply enjoys spending time with her immediate and extended family including her two daughters, her dog, and her cat, and diving into Washington’s many natural swimming holes as often as possible!
