Adults, teens and children can be seen in one-on-one therapy. It is common for most therapists at our Center to recommend a weekly meeting. For adults, therapy often involves talking to the therapist in a confidential and comfortable treatment room. We strive to make the therapy room feel like a home-environment rather than a clinic. For children, we offer play and expressive arts therapy; we have two uniquely designed child therapy rooms. Teens and pre-teens sometimes enjoy a blend of talk therapy and interactive therapy games. In general, we try to make the therapy environment as welcoming and non-intimidating as possible. Speak with your therapist to learn more about what therapy might look like for you.
Adult Therapy
Therapists use various approaches tailored to individual needs: Some examples include:
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): Focuses on identifying and changing negative thought patterns and behaviors, effective for anxiety and depression.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT): Combines CBT with mindfulness to help regulate emotions and improve interpersonal effectiveness.
Psychodynamic Therapy: Explores unconscious patterns and past experiences to understand current behaviors and emotions.
Trauma-Informed Care: Specialized approaches like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) help process traumatic memories and promote healing.
Humanistic Therapy: Emphasizes personal growth, self-actualization, and individual experiences in a supportive, non-judgmental environment.
For Younger Children (Play & Expressive Therapy)
Natural Language of Play: Therapists use toys, dolls, art, or games to help kids communicate what they can't verbalize, making therapy feel less intimidating.
Skill Building Through Play: Activities help with sharing, frustration tolerance, creativity, self-esteem, and emotional regulation.
Family Involvement: Sessions often include parents to help implement strategies at home.
For Older Children & Teens (Collaborative & Skill-Based)
More Talk & Direct Approach: Sessions involve more conversation about school, friends, stress, and family dynamics, similar to adult therapy but tailored to their stage.
Skill Development: Focuses on teaching coping strategies, problem-solving, mindfulness (like deep breathing), and building healthy thinking patterns.
Technology & Relatability: Therapists might use technology, humor, or storytelling to make sessions engaging.
Confidentiality: A strong emphasis on privacy, while still involving parents for support.
Geriatric Therapy
Addresses mental health concerns such as grief, social isolation, and anxiety related to aging. Therapists often use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) or Reminiscence (Life Review) Therapy.
Common Elements in All
Safe Space: A non-judgmental place to feel heard and understood.
Building Rapport: Establishing trust is key.
Goal-Oriented: Identifying problems and developing strategies to manage them.
