Who is this group for?

This group is designed for children with Selective Mutism, Social Anxiety, and other anxieties around peers and interacting with others in school and in other social settings. This group supports children are able to speak and interact comfortably in familiar settings like home but experience challenges with speaking in certain social situations and/or people consistently, that interfere with their daily life.

What does this group do?

This therapeutic group will incorporate role play “Hero Kids” game, designed for children 4-10 years of age. Creating a team approach provides exploration, imagination, social skills, character development, problem-solving, and “bravery” entering a 30 minute to 60 minute adventure and battles.

When does this group happen?

Wednesdays at 3:00PM monthly.

  • Boys group 1st Wednesdays of the month

  • Girls group 4th Wednesdays of the month

How does this group work?

This group focuses on CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) model:

  • Emotion Regulation: through role-play and consequence management. Learning and identifying emotions and internal cues (thoughts, body sensations, beliefs, etc) that impact their communication and engagement with others and in the story.

  • Coping Strategies: Learning, recognizing and challenging unhelpful thoughts or situations that get them ‘stuck.’ Learn how to use mind/body connection (belly buddies and counting heartbeat, big squeeze, animal skills, etc)

  • Social-Emotional Learning: Learn how to recognize challenges, supporting, turn-taking and problem-solving with others while building fun and creative environment using role-play

  • Increase Self-Esteem: Learning and engaging with their character to foster a sense of control, emotional connection, and leadership.

Fees:

$55 for 60 minutes

$150 for 60-90 minutes

Registration Process:

  1. 15-30 minute Q & A - free

  2. Initial meeting assessment - includes determination of fit for the group.

  3. Sign Participation agreement

She also provides support for parents and school personnel.
